Counted is accurate because it knows your job’s real rules. Spend five minutes setting them once, and every shift after that calculates itself. Here’s the quick path.
1. Create your account
Sign up with your email and a password. Your data is private to you and backs up securely so it follows you to any device.
2. Set your pay rate
Open your Profile and enter your hourly rate (or annual salary — each profile can be hourly or salaried). Have more than one job or rate? Create a separate profile for each; Counted keeps them apart and you switch with a tap.
3. Pick your state’s overtime rule
This is the important one. Spin the State overtime rules wheel to where you work — all 50 states and DC are built in — and Counted sets that state’s rule. The wheel shows you exactly what it applies, for example:
- California — 1.5× after 8 hours/day, 2× after 12 hours/day, 1.5× after 40 hours/week. Full explainer →
- Most states — the federal rule: 1.5× after 40 hours in a week.
- Federal / No overtime / Custom — also on the wheel, if your job or contract works differently.
4. Add breaks, holidays & premiums (optional)
In Settings you can tune the details that affect your pay:
- Breaks — deduct an unpaid lunch automatically, or credit a paid one.
- Holidays — mark the dates you get holiday pay and set the multiplier.
- Premiums — Sunday pay, shift differentials for nights, and meal premiums.
5. Clock in and read your pay
Now the daily part takes seconds:
- Clock — tap to clock in and out. Your hours and overtime tally live.
- Timesheet — see your whole week or month, with overtime and holidays flagged.
- Pay — your estimated gross, broken down by regular, OT, premiums and more.
6. Export when you need a record
From the Pay view you can generate a clean PDF or CSV for any date range — handy for your own records, tax time, or handing to an accountant.
Five minutes now, accurate pay forever
Set your rules once and every shift calculates itself — overtime, premiums and all.
